LiPo Charge Cost Calculator
What charging your LiPo packs from storage actually costs per month.
How this calculator works
Pack energy first:
Wh = capacity (Ah) × cells × 3.7 V
A 6S 1300 mAh holds ~28.9 Wh. Charging from storage (≈55% charge) to full through a charger that's ~85% efficient pulls ≈ Wh × 0.45 ÷ 0.85 from the wall. Multiply by packs per session, sessions per month and your electricity price - that's the monthly line on your power bill.
The honest answer: it's pennies
For a typical freestyle habit - six 6S 1300 packs, four sessions a month - the math lands around five to ten cents monthly at average electricity prices. Charging cost is not a reason to fly less. We built the calculator anyway, because "what does charging LiPos cost" is a question every new pilot eventually googles at 1 a.m., and the answer deserves to be a number instead of a shrug.
Where the real money goes
The expensive part of LiPo ownership is killing packs early:
- Storage voltage. Leaving packs full between sessions is the #1 killer - store at ~3.8 V/cell and they last seasons instead of months. The routine: LiPo care.
- Deep discharge. Every landing below 3.5 V/cell resting trades minutes now for cycles later (flight time calculator assumes the healthy 80% cutoff for exactly this reason).
- Overworked packs. Flying near a pack's real current ceiling cooks it - sanity-check with the current draw checker.
A $25 pack that dies at 40 cycles costs 62 cents per flight; the same pack retired at 200 cycles costs 12. That's the economy worth optimizing - browse price per Wh across the battery database when replacing, and spend the electricity savings on nothing, because there aren't any.
